First Tizen developer reference smartphone breaks cover, reminds us of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI [video]

The first smartphone running on Tizen OS is finally here, albeit it will never be launched commercially. Samsung handed out this reference design device to developers at the Tizen Developer Conference. The device is said to feature a 4.3-inch 1024×720 pixels display and a 1.2GHz dual-core ARM processor, which is ironic considering Intel is pushing the OS, which essentially is whatever is left of MeeGo after Nokia gave it the boot in favor of Windows Phone. Samsung, which wants to be across all available smartphone platforms, is the biggest handset vendor backing Tizen and could merge it with its own Bada OS.
Considering Samsung’s intentions, the Tizen UI seems heavily inspired by TouchWiz complete with a notification bar with quick-access buttons to some functions.
