Nokia and Carl Zeiss extend exclusive partnership for imaging technologies

Yesterday Nokia and Carl Zeiss, the legendary German imaging company announced that they have extended their long standing exclusive partnership.  Some of the fruits of this exclusive partnership have included devices like the N8, which still is the bar for camera phones in the market and the soon to be released Nokia PureView 808 and its unique 41-megapixel PureView camera.

Especially in the case of the PureView 808, the collaborative effort between the two companies was immense as Carl Zeiss worked on creating the unique optics, while Nokia worked on creating the algorithms and the high resolution image sensor.

This partnership goes way back to the mid 2000’s when Nokia released the N90 which had a unique swivel design and the camera was mounted on the hinge of the device. This very device became the first Nokia smartphone to come with Carl Zeiss optics.
