Sony Mobile officially launches the Xperia P, U and Sola in India

Over the past couple of weeks we have seen retailers put up the  the Xperia U and the Xperia Sola up for sale, with the Xperia P going up on sale tomorrow. While, all this was actually going on we never really received any official word from Sony Mobile that the devices were available in the market, inspite of them being available. Well, now Sony Mobile has official acknowledged that these devices are available to consumers and alongside this they have partnered with Tata DOCOMO to provide free 3GB data for three months for 3G users. The Tata DOCOMO 2G customers will not be left out as they will also enjoy 3GB data for three months plus 300 minutes of free talk time, though that will be only applicable Tata to Tata.

As we already know, the Xperia P is powered by a 1GHz dual ST-Ericsson NovaThor chip and features a 4-inch display boasting of a qHD resolution of 960×540 with White Magic technology, that adds an additional White pixel to the standard Red, Green and Blue pixels. The result is unprecedented  clarity even under direct sunlight. Other, features of the device include 1GB of RAM, a 8-megapixel camera with 1080p capture, 16GB of inbuilt memory and 50GB of Box cloud storage. Sony is quoting a MRP of Rs 25,799, but Infibeam is already offering the device for Rs 25,500 along with a free Plantronics Bluetooth headset.

The Xperia U, which is already retailing in the market also runs a 1GHz Dual-core chip, a 3.5-inch Reality display with a resolution 854×480 pixels, 512 MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera with 720p recording, 8GB of inbuilt memory with 4GB being accessible by the user and 50 GB of Box Cloud storage. Sony is again quoting a price of Rs 17,399, but on Infibeam one can get the device for Rs 16,499.

The other device which also is retailing in the market is the Xperia Sola. The Sola also flaunts a 1GHz Dual-core chip with 512MB of RAM. As far as the display is concerned, Sony has provided a 3.7-inch Reality display with a resolution of 854×480 pixels. The device also features a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video capabilities and provides the user with 8GB of Internal memory with 5GB being available to the user. Users can increase the memory via a microSD card slot, and again Sony has partnered with Box to provide 50GB of Cloud storage. Sony says the Xperia Sola will retail for Rs 20,449, but the device is available on Infibeam for Rs 19,999.

For these devices, Tata DOCOMO is providing a “Let’s Play on Android” gaming service that lets users play premium Android Games on Xperia Sola on a monthly subscription of Rs. 99. This exclusive package of games “GAMETANIUM” consists of 30 premium games worth more than Rs.2000.

All the above mentioned devices run Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, though Sony is promising an update to Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future.
