First Android-based BlackBerry coming in August

In case you haven't heard, BlackBerry is apparently getting ready to release smartphones that don't run its own operating system, using Android instead. One of these handsets, allegedly codenamed BlackBerry Venice, could be launched in November, bringing high-end features like a 5.4-inch curved Quad HD display, and a six-core Snapdragon 808 processor. However, this might not be BlackBerry's first Android product.

According to N4BB, the Venice might not run Android at all, and yet BlackBerry could introduce an Android smartphone as soon as August.

Possibly codenamed BlackBerry Prague, the device that's expected to be released in August won't have high-end features. Reportedly, it's going to be a low-end smartphone with a form factor reminiscent of the BlackBerry Z3 (an affordable handset that was launched last year). But these are just rumors for now, so we can't be sure of anything.

Earlier today, we set up a poll asking our readers if they'd be interested in getting an Android-based BlackBerry smartphone. The majority of those who voted until now said that they would be interested - so BlackBerry might actually have a shot at launching a well-received Android smartphone.
