Revealed: OnePlus 2 with 3,300mAh battery, physical home button and faster LTE

OnePlus continues to push the hype train further. In a Reddit AMA last night, the company’s team revealed major OnePlus 2 specifications and features ahead of the July 27 launch.

First up, we got to know that the OnePlus 2 will be smaller when compared to its predecessor. To showcase this, OnePlus’ David S posted a photo of the OnePlus One, and said that the OnePlus 2 was underneath it. However, rumored leaks suggest a similar 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, and therefore it is speculated that the company most likely will trim the bezels and keep the display size intact.

The team even revealed that the OnePlus 2 will have a 3,300mAh battery, as compared to the OnePlus One which packed a slightly less 3,100mAh battery.

With respect to the camera, the team didn’t give out specifics but said that the camera was very important to them and a few tricks have been embedded that will give it an edge. Rumors indicate a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Leaked sketches even hint at a possible dual-camera setup at the back.

OnePlus also confirmed that the invite model will be re-introduced for the OnePlus 2, however the system will come with improved iterations and will give more leverage to early supporters. The folks from the company even revealed that the fingerprint sensor will be embedded inside a physical button seen on Samsung and Apple devices.

The team said that the charging USB Type C port cable will be longer than the one found alongside OnePlus One, after many users complained of the length. We most likely won’t be seeing the wireless charging feature, and even though the team didn’t deny it, they said that it wasn’t the ‘most convenient’ feature.

What the OnePlus 2 will surely not have is a heart rate sensor, the team confirms. Co-founder Carl Pei said that the company was most proud of the OnePlus 2′s ‘design and build’ but did not confirm the full metal build seen in many leaks so far.

The team however did confirm that the Style Swap covers are much better in design, and that the smartphone will have two global smartphone variants for US and Europe with more network band support for faster LTE speeds.

In previous announcements, the company has already told us that the OnePlus 2 will have an improved version of the Snapdragon 810 processor, USB Type C port, fingerprint sensor and that the smartphone will cost between $320-$450.


OnePlus is set to unveil the smartphone on July 27, in a unique one-of-its-kind virtual reality event. For this purpose, the company is giving out custom made VR headsets to select customers, and even selling them on Amazon India for Rs 99 during the end of July.
